SHORT BIO

Patrick Zambonin has been working as a professional bass player since 1995. After living and playing in London for 10 years he is now one of the most in-demand bassists in Vienna, Austria. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston (receiving a Scholarship) and has played in a multitude of national and international bands and projects in styles as diverse as Soul, Pop, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Afrobeat and Latin. He has played tours and gigs in over 30 countries on five continents.

Patrick Zambonin was born in Switzerland and moved to Vienna, Austria in 1993 to study at  the American Institute of Music in Vienna. After graduating with the Professional Diploma in 95 he decided to move to London to search for new opportunities, work as a professional musician  and he quickly established himself on the London music circuit.

In 1997, he received a Scholarship from Berklee College of Music in Boston, spent two years there studying Jazz, RnB and Latin bass with teachers such as Oscar Stagnaro  and Anthony Vitti and in the process also won a Berklee Achievement Scholarship.

Since his return to London in 2000, Patrick’s versatility and knowledge of many different styles has helped him to become an in-demand session bassist and he has been playing, touring and recording with an array of international artists such as Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen, Dele Sosimi’s Afrobeat Orchestra (Nigeria), UK Jazz legend Don Weller, Lokkhi Terra, Motimba, Snowboy and the Latin Section (UK), Osvaldo Chacon (Cuba), Selen Gülün’s Just About Jazz (Turkey), Jazzinho (Brazil) and Abdelkader Saadoun (Algeria), in styles as diverse as Pop, African, Funk, Jazz, Latin and Fusion. He has also been teaching extensively, both for private students and in schools such as St.Joseph’s College in London and doing African and Latin workshops around the UK.

Patrick has performed in many major London venues (Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall amongst others), numerous UK festivals (such as Brecon Jazz Festival, BBC Live) and international festivals around Europe, Africa and Asia.

In 2006 Patrick returned to Vienna and has since played with a broad range of artists including Café Drechsler, Hubert Tubbs, David Bowie’s Lazarus (Volkstheater), Gisele Jackson & Club 54, Superfly Radio Orchestra, AP AllStars, Sigi Finkel Adventure Group,  Horny Funk Brothers, Alegre Correa, Iris Camaa, Melvin Davis and many others in festivals and venues such as Vienna National Opera, Jazz Festival Vienna, Porgy&Bess, Joe Zawinul’s Birdland and Wiesen Sunsplash. In addition to his session work he is also a respected bass instructor.
